New Toy Friday #2 - BREAD CATNIP TOYS

Watch this week’s New Toy Friday video here and check out the toys themselves here.

Carbs are—unequivocally—one of my absolute favorite things in life. I also (as you may have gleaned) rather like cats. So when I discovered bread-themed catnip cat toys in my quest for this week's New Toy Friday victim, the choice was obvious.

It seems relevant to note that I have a massive weak spot for cat toys that resemble human products, be they food, household items or tiny little bottles of wine. I am a sucker for such things, and I won’t pretend otherwise.

Be that as it may, I do have rather high standards for cat toys—given the truly staggering number I have purchased since rescuing Natilla at the end of 2020—so I went into this Friday with as objective a mind as possible.

First reaction: oh my god, they are so cute. These toys (which currently retail for $15.99) come in a set of six and include (I checked!) a pretzel, baguette, croissant, toast, bun, and cinnamon roll. The toys are made of flannelette (which is not a term I had ever encountered prior to reading the description) and are filled with organic catnip.

Our three cats have a wide range of reactions to catnip. Natilla gets incredibly cute and cuddly and will inevitably rub her face all over the catnip toy (her current love is a catnip pickle). Gandalf is curious and playful about everything (always), though catnip does not seem to elicit any sort of massive change in her demeanor, likely due to the fact that she’s already about as chaotic as it is possible for a creature to be. Dave, bless him, after getting over his initial aversion to new things, invariably becomes absolutely stoned out of his little orange mind. We are sometimes graced with the presence of Battle Dave after exposing him to catnip, though that is perhaps a story for another time.

Right off the bat, my cats were enamored with these toys. Natilla—true to form—promptly rubbed her face all over them and showed an immediate affinity for both the pretzel and the baguette. Dave gravitated towards the roll (which I believe is a Kaiser Roll but please, correct me if I am mistaken) while Gandalf seemed quite drawn to the baguette and croissant. Gandalf, for her part, seemed to grapple with whether or not she wanted to cuddle the croissant or eviscerate it. She spent a good bit of time doing both, so perhaps it is a love-hate relationship. We shall see.

Overall, I was quite pleased with these toys. They are utterly adorable, and seem quite well-made; I don’t anticipate them coming apart at the seams at the first sign of wear and tear, though I’ll be sure to update this review accordingly if life proves otherwise. All three of the cats loved them, and I now get to see little plush versions of my beloved carbohydrate-packed foods strewn all over the house, which, frankly, is reason enough to buy them for me.

Five stars from me, and so concludes our second New Toy Friday.
